Roller/Dingo – Battery Spring

Collapsible battery spring for all Roller and Dingo versions.

When a primary means of short-circuit protection is not available, a collapsible spring must be used to provide the absolute minimum protection. Under short-circuit conditions, the spring will absorb excessive heat from the battery and deform, effectively opening the circuit.

Collapsible springs cannot provide any dependable battery protection or user safety, since they only react only after a battery has overheated. By that time, any battery will be partially damaged, exposing the user to serious risks.

Therefore, using a primary means of battery protection such as a dedicated circuit board, a drop-in protection module, or a fuse, should be considered as absolutely necessary to minimize risks.

The updated springs for the Roller / Dingo have a thicker wire diameter, reduced wire length, fewer twists and an optimized shape, all of which contribute to minimizing voltage drops under all conditions.

Additionally, the new spring design is able to better tolerate thermal stresses, which means that some safety has been sacrificed in return for better performance.

The new springs can be used with any coil resistance, but utmost care is required to ensure that your battery does not get warm during long puffs, even if the performance remains good.

True to our style, we now manufacture them in 3 different variations, each with its own pros and cons:

• Plain, unplated brass springs provide good performance, but their top/bottom contact areas must be routinely cleaned. The standard option with non-Custom unit, and a good choice for the cost-aware vaper.
• Silver-plated, brass springs provide the best conductivity. However, pure silver has poor mechanical properties, which means that the plating will slowly wear off. To remedy this, silver-plated springs have an additional corrosion/stress resistant under-plating, which, however, is not as conductive as silver, but still better than un-plated brass. A good choice for the best possible performance and still better than un-plated brass even if the top layer wears off after many months of use.
• Rhodium-plated, brass springs are great all-rounders. Rhodium is an extra-durable plating material, which will not tarnish in any environment and is highly conductive. Plus, it has a bright, grey-silver tone, that looks simply unreal.

Note

The new springs are now mounted below the bottom cap delrin spacer, which needs to be removed in order to install / uninstall the spring. The bottom turn of the spring should normally sit snug against the Bottom Cap ring threads – this has been done to minimize current flow through the Bottom Cap disk / ring threads and further improve performance.
