Threaded 510 connector for all Rollers and Dingos, in a variety of materials and styles.
Non-custom versions of the Roller and Dingo come with a ‘Classic’ and a ‘Recessed’ connector, both made of brass.
Custom versions are assembled with one connector of your choice — however, the available options include stainless steel and rhodium plated brass.
Brass vs. Stainless Steel
For a detailed discussion between brass vs. stainless steel as a 510 connector material, check out our blog article ‘Design of a 510 Connector‘.
In short, brass is recommended if you want to minimize damage to the threading of your atomizers, since the brass connector will take up most of the damage, especially when coupled with a stainless steel atomizer.
The downside with brass is that it requires frequent cleaning, especially if you want to maintain top performance. Dirty or oxidized brass contacts and threads will increase electrical losses and can cause trouble in the long term, such as voltage drop or loss of contact.
Stainless steel requires less cleaning and looks better, but it can eat through your atomizer’s threading much faster. Moreover, stainless steel has a higher bulk and contact interface resistance compared to brass, which means that a clean brass connector will give you better performance compared to a stainless steel one.
A good compromise between the two is rhodium-plated brass. Rhodium-plated brass connectors provide better conductivity compared to the plain brass ones, but require no cleaning. Rhodium is very durable as a plating material, but these connectors are not designed to take much abuse. If you don’t exchange the atomizer on your Roller/Dingo constantly, the rhodium layer will serve you well for a long time! Rhodium-plated connectors have a polished, grey-silverish look, which also sets them apart from their brass and stainless-steel counterparts.
Classic vs. Recessed
This is mostly a matter of style, but it also have an impact on your vaping experience, depending on your atomizer.
The ‘Classic’ style connector is slightly raised to allow an optimal airflow. It looks good with mini-atomizers, but using it with anything else will result in a small gap between the atomizer and your Roller or Dingo.
The ‘Recessed’ style connector is ideal for use with atomizers that have a side air intake, since it allows you to mount them flush with your Roller or Dingo. It can still be used with more traditional atomizers, but the air intake will be a bit tighter.
